_World Hearing Day 2020 marks the release of hearWHO_pro_, a mobile application that can be used by World Health Organization (WHO){:target="_blank"} health workers to check the hearing of people in their communities. hearX Group has developed the app for WHO{:target="_blank"}, which uses digits-in-noise technology for the accurate detection of hearing loss within two minutes._
The app is an extension of hearWHO{:target="_blank"}, that was also developed by hearX Group and was released on World Hearing Day last year. The main difference between the two apps is that hearWHO{:target="_blank"} was specifically developed for anyone with a smartphone to check their own hearing through the app. hearWHO_pro_ on the other hand, enables health workers to perform hearing checks on other people. As such, hearWHO_pro_ serves as a tool for pre-screening of hearing loss in a community setting for health workers to determine the need for an individual to undergo a formal hearing test. The app also securely stores the data of each check, to enable health workers to compare hearing check results of the same individuals, over a period of time.
WHO{:target="_blank"} hopes to raise awareness about the importance of hearing health by encouraging people to check their hearing regularly and to practice safe listening habits. hearWHO{:target="_blank"} and hearWHO_pro_ are clinically-validated tools, based on digits-in-noise technology, that mimic everyday speech-in-noise environments for the accurate detection of hearing loss in under two minutes.
Based on hearWHO{:target="_blank"} statistics, hearX Group is optimistic about the success to come with hearWHO_pro_.
__During the past year, over 142 000 hearing checks have been completed in over 192 countries across the globe with the hearWHO app.__
This World Hearing Day, taking place on 3 March, WHO{:target="_blank"} encourages everyone - especially those at higher risk of hearing loss - to check their hearing. Early intervention is key to ensure that those suffering from hearing loss can live life to the fullest.
